Lamont 1

Varner Bros., Inc. is a family owned business that has serviced the Bakersfield area for over 75 years. The Varner family started with humble beginnings in Kern County in the late 1930s and have now grown to proudly employ over 60 people and provide refuse and recycling services to most of north Bakersfield, Oildale, Rosedale and parts of Shafter. We run only clean-air vehicles that are compliant with the California Air Resources Board, and sponsor litter removal efforts to keep our environment and community clean.

Residential Service

Standard service is (1) 96 gallon blue cart for mixed recyclables, (1) 96 gallon green cart for yard waste and organics materials, and (1) 96 gallon tan cart for trash in unincorporated Kern County. The tan and green carts are serviced weekly while the blue cart is serviced every other week. Please reference below for acceptable items in each cart.

Lamont Sanitation provides residential waste removal services including regular household landfill waste (Tan/Gray Cart), Organics such as green waste including plant matter, tree trimmings and yard clippings (Green Cart) and Household Recycling materials (blue cart).

In 2016, Governor Brown signed SB 1383 (the “Short- Lived Climate Pollutant Reduction Strategy”) into law. This mandate required that Kern County comply, and on 7/1/23, SB 1383 was implemented throughout unincorporated Metro Bakersfield. For more State SB 1383 information please see: https://calrecycle.ca.gov/organics/slcp/

In conjunction with previous State Mandates, SB 1383 requires all residences and virtually all businesses in Metro Bakersfield properly dispose of their refuse, recycling and organic materials. For more information, please see below or visit kernpublicworks.com/organics.

Recycle your food by following these steps:

1. Collect food scraps and food waste.
2. Place food waste inside your green organics barrel.

We will collect and recycle your holiday trees placed at the curb on your regularly scheduled collection day beginning December 26th and will continue for two weeks following Christmas. Trees longer than 6’ must be cut in half. Please remove ornaments, tinsel and stands before placing at curbside.

We observe the following holidays: Christmas Day, Independence Day, New Year’s Day, and Thanksgiving Day. When a holiday falls on a weekday, service will be delayed by one day. There is no service interruption or delay when the holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday.

We have temporary (or “on-call”) bins available for small to medium household clean-ups. We can also provide large 25-yd or 40-yd roll-off bins for large clean-ups and remodels. Please fill out applications for these services or contact us for further information.

1. Curbside collection of 2 Large items per month has no additional charge to unincorporated Metro Bakersfield Residences. These standard household items typically include: appliances, couches, tables, chairs, furniture, mattresses, computers or TVs. There are no hazardous, inert, green waste, construction or demolition materials allowed. No items that can’t be reasonably lifted by 2 people. Please call (661) 322-6863 to schedule. If you live in the City of Bakersfield and would like a similar service, please call (661) 326-3114.

2. Your hauler and the County conduct 2 Large item collection events per year. These events are held on a Saturday during the Fall and a Saturday during the Spring. There is no limit to the amount of items you can bring. For more information please visit: https://www.kernpublicworks.com/services/solid-waste

The residential Solid Waste and Recycling Collection Service Fees will be placed on your property tax bill. Extra services provided in between tax billing cycles will be billed directly to the property owner.

1. Please NEVER place any needles or sharps in ANY of your refuse or recycling containers.
